The Flowerscape
2024
Photobook
36 pages, Colour printing on matte coated paper, with an additional tracing-paper spread
The Flowerscape began with the tulip fields of the Netherlands, an intensely cultivated and artificial landscape. The vivid colours create an almost surreal sense of abundance and liveliness, while beneath them the ground can appear strangely quiet, exhausted, or even dead. This tension between what appears alive and what lies beneath the surface became a way of questioning how landscapes are perceived and constructed.
In 2024, I developed this research into the photobook Moments in Bloom, Lost in Flowerscape. Moving through shifting perspectives and states of seeing, the book explores the contrast between the vivid spectacle of the tulip fields and the cultivated ground beneath them. The flowerscape is a twisted experience, where beauty and absence exist simultaneously.
